Oil released into the marine environment can have significant impacts on wildlife such as seabirds, marine mammals and reptiles. Hundreds of thousands of animals die every year as a result of oil spills caused by incidents or deliberate discharges at sea. Around the world, scientists, wildlife rehabilitators, government authorities and industry responders are working to prevent the oiling of animals or to mitigate the effects of oiling. Since 1982, the Effects of Oil on Wildlife Conferences have been organised to bring these professionals together and offer a platform to exchange information, knowledge and experiences. This series of conferences is the only one of its kind and is truly global in nature, attracting participants from all around the world.
The objective of this Effects of Oil on Wildlife Conference is to exchange the latest (scientific) developments in the field of oiled wildlife response and preparedness.
