Held in the enchanting city of Tallinn, Estonia the week of 5-9 October 2009, the scientific programme took place from 6-8 October, with optional side events being organised on Monday, 5 October and Friday, 9 October. The Conference theme was Science, Planning and Cooperation to Minimise the Effects of Oil on Wildlife. Over the three day conference, 56 presentations were made by representatives of a variety of organisations, exploring the different session themes of planning, post release, case histories, training & volunteers, industry, veterinary, effects & chronic oiling, prevention & rescue and rehabilitation methods. Three round table or Q&A sessions were also held providing an open forum for discussing specialised topics. Short courses and practical laboratory/field sessions organised on Monday, 5 and Friday, 9 October allowed delegates to gain hands-on training in specific oiled wildlife response subjects from experienced trainers. See Proceedings page for more information. A significant number of the EOW 2009 delegates were from European organisations, allowing for a valuable exchange of experience and knowledge and opportunity to network with colleagues from further afield. EOW is an essential conference for anyone working in fields relating to oil pollution and its effects on wildlife. The date and location for the next EOW conference are still to be announced.
